Today at the Track

We visited Rock House MX on Saturday. It was a good time. Not only did we get to go riding, but we also saw some neat critters.

Here a turtle is laying its eggs. Seeing this in person was a first for me.

Some little frogs kept us company between laps. This little one hid out underneath the motorcycle tire for some shade.

Kristen was having fun taking all sorts of pictures and videos. This one is of the double on the back straight (Am I jumping or riding on the roof?).

The Turtle and the Huz - Rockhouse MX

RIDING! It felt so good! The track is in a pecan tree orchard and has lots of shade. Though I have been the beneficiary of people generously letting me ride their equipment, it was the first time I had ridden my own equipment in 5 years. Did I mention it felt good?

A turtle tried to throw down some fast laps, but I was able to come back and take the second moto win. The little guy was literally in the middle of the track!

Don't be judging me now.

Jacksonville

We went to Jacksonville last weekend to see Grandaddy Collins and Mercy Lee. Our opinion of Jacksonville so far: GREAT!

Spontaneous Destruction

There is something associated with children and spontaneous destruction, don’t you agree? Like the time when I was a child and randomly cut up my parent’s bed spread because dad “need some rags for the garage.” Or the time that a nephew of mine decided to climb a cabinet containing dishes and toppled everything down on himself. This last week I discovered something new about this destructive process: It begins in utero.

As Kristen was walking into the house, a duty she performs quite frequently and for which she is quite practiced, she suddenly lost her balance. Instead of reaching for something sturdy, instead of reaching for the nearby washing machine, or the rock solid door frame, or perhaps her willing husband, instead of all of these, she reached for the two inch by one inch garage door opener button nestled in the most fragile of all building materials, drywall. Instantly the small screws securing the opener pulled through the drywall, leaving a small cloud of dust and the button hanging dejectedly from its wire. But in the miracle of destruction, Kristen regained her balance and successfully entered the house.

If the baby is capable of such feats while still in the womb, I cautiously wonder what lies ahead.

Ocean Pond

The end of year party for school was held Saturday evening at a place called Ocean Pond. We had a great southern dinner of fried chicken, rice with gravy, lima beans with ham, tomato casserole, and some cobbler for dessert. It was a great celebration.
